Its appalling that this kind of thing still happens in society these days, but its sad to read that it in fact does.

A 2-year-old special needs child was abused so bad last month that he has recurring seizures and may have permanent neurological damage.

The man who allegedly hit the boy and the woman who failed to get him medical treatment in a timely manner were arrested Friday afternoon, according to online jail records.

In Cobb County criminal warrants, authorities allege that between 7 p.m. March 29 and 6:58 p.m. March 31, Kenneth Lamont Thompson of Marietta hit the boy multiple times on both of his legs, thighs and buttocks, which caused multiple bruises.

“One bruise left the distinct shape of a hand print,” an officer wrote in Thompson’s warrant.

Monica Lynn Knouff of Marietta allegedly noticed the bruises on March 30, but didn’t seek out medical treatment for the boy. The next day, she left the bruised child in Thompson’s care, and he allegedly injured the boy again. That injury caused a subdural hematoma to the right side of the child’s head, records show.

Knouff took the boy to WellStar Kennestone Hospital ”rather than have an ambulance transport which delayed medical treatment for said child,” an official wrote in Knouff’s warrant.

The boy was later flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where the child remains in critical condition with recurring seizures, according to the April 4 warrants. To save the child’s life, doctors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta had to perform emergency surgery on the child, records show.

Thompson is in the Cobb County Jail without bond on a misdemeanor battery charge and a felony cruelty to children in the first degree charge. Knouff, who is in custody in lieu of $75,000 bond, is also charged with cruelty to children in the first degree. Additionally, she faces a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the deprivation of a minor resulting in serious injury or death – first and second offense.

The relationship between Thompson, Knouff and the child is unknown, and Marietta Police Department spokesman David Baldwin could not be reached for comment this afternoon.
